Fall Reminder: Open Burning & Brush Pickup Guidelines for McLean Residents

9/28/2026

With October just around the corner, the Village of McLean is preparing for the upcoming months when leaf burning is permitted. Public Works would like to remind all residents of the rules for open burning, as well as the guidelines for brush and yard-waste pickup.

Following these guidelines helps keep our community safe, clean, and running smoothly. Please take a moment to review the expectations below.

Open Burning

Open burning in the Village of McLean is permitted only during the following months:

March, April, October, November, and through December 20.

Burning Hours

  • Monday–Saturday: 8:00 AM to sunset
  • Sunday: 1:00 PM to sunset

Allowable Materials to Burn

Residents may burn:

  • Paper
  • Leaves
  • Landscape waste, including dry vegetation or dry plant refuse

DO NOT BURN TRASH

Trash is not an allowable material for open burning. Please do not burn household garbage, plastics, construction materials, or other refuse.

Brush & Yard-Waste Pickup

The Village of McLean provides brush pickup as a service to residents through Village employees. Please follow these guidelines to make pickup as efficient as possible.

  • Brush pickup is scheduled for the 2nd and last Monday of each month. Exceptions may occur depending on weather conditions and the work schedule of Village employees.
  • Tree limbs will be picked up ONLY if they are less than 8 feet in length so they can fit into the Village truck.
  • Limbs and sticks, especially small ones, may be placed in garbage cans or totes to make pickup easier for employees.
  • Bagged garden/yard waste and grass clippings will be picked up.
  • Construction materials and lumber will NOT be picked up.

Public Works appreciates everyone's cooperation in following these guidelines. By making sure leaves, brush, and yard waste are prepared properly, residents can help make the pickup process safer and more efficient for our Village employees.

Thank you for helping keep McLean clean, safe, and beautiful this fall!
